Real Maestros, Real Handcrafted Wood Furnishings

Mia Casa Bella has traveled around the world to select the finest wood artisans available to create the most beautiful collections of handcrafted solid wood furniture, accents and hand carved mirrors. Our collections are made from the hands of ?Furniture Maestros?, who use the same techniques that were used in the 17 th and 18 th centuries. These ?Maestros? have mastered the ancient forms of hand Carved Woods, Gold & Silver Leaf, Marquetry and Inlay techniques.

With new technology and more efficient tools, other companies have turned over the old world techniques to machines replacing the art of hand carving. What a machine produced furnishing does is remove the feeling and uniqueness that the artist brings to each piece.

When a Mia Casa Bella artist produces one of our decorative fine furnishings, he makes a work or art that is truly unique. Machines cannot replace this artistry. This is the element missing from machine produced furniture. Artists give birth to their creations, they do not manufacture them.

Another problem with machine produced furnishings is the materials used. Other companies use resin, plaster and foam materials. They are not true wood furnishings but poor imitations of craftmanship and old world techniques.

At Mia Casa Bella we take pride in the craftsmanship of each of our hand carved products. Each piece is carved only from the finest woods by the hands of true artists. Whether they are Mirrors, Buffets or Decorative Italian Table Tops, each is a unique and powerful expression in it's own right. Every piece is also appointed with the finest finishes. Our woodworkers are the very best ?Maestros?.

Gold & Silver Leaf

Dating as far back as the Egyptian times, gold leaf or silver leaf is a skilled technique which begins by flattening a piece of gold or silver until it reaches a paper-thin texture. The object that is to be leafed must be sanded and polished several times to remove any imperfections and to achieve a porcelain-like finish. Once this process is complete, a ?white of Spain? is applied.

Sanding is done again and a water glue made of a special powder is mixed and applied to one small area at a time using a camel hair brush. The sheet of paper-thin gold leaf is carefully applied to these small areas one section at a time. To even out the areas of gold leafing, an ?agate? stone is used to ?guild? and eliminate any imperfections in the gold leaf finish.
